Sports Available

Special Olympics New York athletes develop skills and gain confidence through year-round athletic programs in 22 sports. Children and adults with mental retardation participate daily in training clubs, after-school sports, adapted physical education programs, and sports skills programs in communities all over New York State. Special Olympics places the emphasis on what people can do, not what they may not be able to do.

Special Olympics builds physical fitness, strength, self-esteem, and confidence through the following sports offerings:

Winter Season

	Alpine Skiing
	Nordic Skiing
	Figure Skating
	Speed Skating
	Snowshoeing
	Floor Hockey (Team & Individual Skills)

Spring/Summer Season

	Aquatics
	Athletics (Track & Field, including specialized events for wheelchair and lower functioning athletes)
	*Basketball (Teams & Skills)
	*Bowling (age 21 and under)
	Gymnastics
	Powerlifting
	Tennis
	*Volleyball (Team & Skills)

Fall Season

	*Bowling (age 22 and over)
	*Cycling
	Equestrian Sports
	*Football (Soccer) (5-a-side Team & Skills)
	*Golf
	*Softball (Team & Skills)
	Bocce
	Rollerskating
