Law Enforcement Torch Run

Sgt. Mike Murray, New Torch Run Director

Sgt. Mike Murray, New Torch Run Director

The New York Law Enforcement Torch Run State Committee has elected Sgt. Mike Murray of the New York State Department of Corrections as the new Torch Run Director. Mike will be taking the reigns from Sgt. Kevin Arnone, whose tenure has brought great growth and excitement to the program. Murray has been actively involved in LETR for over seven years and is excited to take on a new role. He has coordinated Torch Run Legs in his region and beyond, is the co-chair (and founder) of the Verona Polar Plunge, chair of the Auburn Fire Truck Pull, originated a softball tourney with all proceeds benefiting SONY, and is also a Special Olympics bowling coach! He also represented New York on the LETR Final Leg in China! The entire Murray family can be found at all Special Olympics New York State Games where they work from sun-up to sun-down to ensure great events! As the Torch Run Director, Mike will be looking to expand the LETR initiative throughout the state!

In 2008, for the first time in history the New York LETR program raised over $1 million for the athletes of Special Olympics New York! The goals and excitement are high for 2009!

The LETR committee is always looking for new law enforcement representatives to get involved! If you are interested, please contact Renee Snyder at rsnyder@nsyo.org.
