Athlete Profile - Marquis Sanders - 2010 State Summer Games
It was only a year ago that Marquis Sanders, 22, began playing basketball. Sanders got involved with playing basketball because his uncle played his whole life and his dad and uncle would always take him to play ball. Sanders led the Christ the King Sharks of the Long Island region to place first in Division 4 at the Special Olympics, Saturday, June 5, 2010.
“My experience with the Special Olympics 2010 games has been good,” said Sanders. “We have a friend here that hurt her arm so we are doing it for her.”
Sanders found a new meaning to life as he joined the Special Olympics. He said that being a part of this is keeping him off the streets and it’s something to look forward to because he made new friends. “If it wasn’t for my friends and coaches here at the Special Olympics, I wouldn’t be here,” he said.
When Sanders is on the court, he is in a good mood and he focuses just on the game of basketball.
You can certainly tell that his focus and determination is there as he runs back and forth on the basketball court scoring and helping his teammates get their points.
