CoriOn February 2, 2010, Cori Piels traveled to the United Nations to speak at a civil society global forum on behalf of her fellow 48,000 athletes of Special Olympics New York. On a panel before representatives from throughout the world, Cori, a Special Olympics figure skater from Rochester, shared her story of overcoming neglect and exclusion, while finding strength and confidence through sports. Today, she is an advocate for more 3 million Special Olympics athletes throughout the world, which is changing attitudes, fostering community building, and providing a more inclusive and accepting world for all people.
